We're Baaaack - McNab Ridge Winery at Buon Appetito

SOLD OUT!

Welcome back my Friends to the Show that never ends . . .

Well, it has "only" been 15 months since our last dinner, we present McNab Ridge Winery, and their Mendocino county grown wines at Buon Appetito in Hayward. The menu hasn't changed from the cancelled April 2020 iteration, but the vintages have changed on the majority of the wines, and we have selected a different Zinfandel for the main course.

McNab Ridge Winery was featured twice in 2012, first at our May dinner that year, and a few months later as a stop on our Hop up to Hopland tour. Since then, though, we have not featured another winery that brought us a French Colombard or a Pinotage. If you are curious about these unusual varietals, or just want to taste Rich Parducci’s (yes he’s related to ‘those’ Parduccis) award winning Zinfandels and Petite Sirah, please be certain to make a reservation.

We will be returning to Buon Appetito Restaurant in Hayward for this event. Owner & Executive Chef Martino Oviedo will be has designed a menu combining new (to our group) dishes and proven favorites to pair with the McNab Ridge wines.

Effects of Covid -

  1. All attendees will be required to show proof of vaccination (or a recent negative test result for those who cannot get vaccinated)
  2. During the pandemic, many of our expenses continued (Mail Box rental, website hosting fees, bank charges, etc), so your memberships have lapsed, and we will need you to pay your dues to come at Member prices.

Clif Family Winery at Luna Loca

Viva Reboot

When we were originally planning our dinner with Clif Family Winery, we were doing so at PLaYT in Hayward. Alas, that restaurant no longer exists. So, when we started to plan this "reboot", we sought out Dana's in Danville.  If you drive by Dana's, you'll see that it no longer exists either, at least not in its old form. The Jain family moved the best of Dana's across the parking lot to their other restaurant - Luna Loca. Since the chefs at Luna Loca had all the recipes from Dana's, we went into the pairing with Luna Loca's Chef Andrade planning to pair the Clif Family wines with a hybrid Luna Loca / Dana's menu, but ended up with a Luna Loca menu with a mere nod to Dana's.

Clif Family Winery
was brought to our attention by members Keith and Karen Kato. Keith was Clif Family Winery founder Gary Erickson's teacher and coach some years back, and they still are in touch.

Notice - Due to Social Distancing, seating at Luna Loca is very limited at present. Make your reservations early.

Three Wine Company Most of our members live in Alameda or Contra Costa counties.Throughout our twenty seven years, we have often featured wines from Alameda County, usually from the Livermore area. But this month, all the red wines were grown in Contra Costa County. Although,Three Wine Company makes their wine in the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg, they use old vine red wine grapes grown in the Oakley area. Matt Cline brought Three Wine Company to us once before, at Faz in September 2012. He was also our speaker for our Cline Cellars at Spiedini in April 2002. Buon Appetito Owner / Chef, Martino Oviedo is making some of our favorite dishes to pair with these wines.

Twisted Oak Winery at Luna Loca For October, we will be welcoming back Twisted Oak Winery of Calaveras County, and their selection of wines of Iberian heritage. We previously featured Twisted Oak in April 2005 (at the Pleasanton Hotel) and in May 2014 (at the Blackhawk Grille) for our 20th Anniversary. Jeff Stai, owner of Twisted Oak, and his Winemaker, Nick Hancock, have been leaders in exploring the grapes of Spanish and Portugese origin.

Meanwhile, we will be returning to Luna Loca in Danville, but this time Chef Jose Andrade is mixing some Mexican dishes with a Luna Loca twist on some of our Dana's favorites, - a "Dana-Luna" hybrid menu.

All attendees will be required to show proof vaccination - if you showed proof at a previous dinner, you will not be required to do so again - (or a recent negative test result for those who cannot get vaccinated)
